Storm Causes Large Tree to Fall on Two Los Altos Homes

October 16th, 2009 · 2 Comments

The high winds and rain of the storm on Tuesday created some havoc for Los Altos residents.  My son, a Mountain View High freshman, got to go home early because power was lost to the school.  Numerous branches and trees came down as well.  The largest damage (that I am aware of) occurred in the 600 block of Arboleda Drive, where a giant Oak tree split and came down on two homes.  No one was injured but there was extensive damage.

I took several photos of the damage (see below):

This tree was almost 8 ft. in diameter, 23 ft. in circumference and was 400 years old. A breathtakingly beautiful tree that will be missed by the many that have loved it.

No, it doesn’t give the full sense of its size. It makes me wonder about our oak tree. I’m sorry that one was lost to the storm.
