California’s 2007 Base API scores have been released and congratulations goes to our own Los Altos Elementary School District for having the highest district scores in the county with a score of 954. Saratoga Union Elementary (953), Cupertino Union (930), Lakeside Joint School District (924), Palo Alto Unified (910) and Loma Prieta Joint Union Elementary (909) all had scores over 900. The overall Base API for the state is 728.
What is the 2007 Base API (as taken from the California Department of Education Website)?
The 2007 Base API summarizes a school’s, an LEA’s, or the state’s performance on the spring 2007 Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program and 2007 California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE). It serves as the baseline score, or starting point, of performance. The API is on a scale of 200 to 1000. It is calculated from the performance of individual students on the following tests:
- California English-Language Arts and Mathematics Standards Tests (CSTs in ELA and mathematics) - grades two through eleven
- California Science Standards Test (CST in science) - grades five, eight, and nine through eleven
- California Life Science Standards Test (CST in life science) - grade ten
- California History-Social Science Standards Test (CST in history-social science) - grades eight through eleven
- California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA) in ELA and mathematics for students with the most severe cognitive disabilities - grades two through eleven
- California Achievement Tests, Sixth Edition Survey (CAT/6 Survey), in reading, language, spelling, and mathematics - grades three and seven
- California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE), in ELA and mathematics - grade ten (and grades eleven and twelve if students retook either part of the CAHSEE and passed that part)
In addition, APIs also are calculated for numerically significant student subgroups at a school to ascertain whether the school meets the “comparable improvement” criterion.
Even in our temporary real estate slowdown, Los Altos remains a desirable place to live. This is due in part to the strength of its schools in providing an excellent learning environment, an environment that has yielded top scores year in and year out.

Dude these are last year scores. The 2008 scores will be out on Aug 29, 2008. The 2007 scores are based on testing in spring of 2007 ~ March 2007.

Yes , These are the 2007 API scores. However, they were released on May 21st 2008 so they are as current as they get….for now!
